چکیده

Non-supported microporous silica (amorphous) and titania thin films were made by the polymeric gel route. The titania system consisted of particles smaller than 5 nm. Reproducible modification of supported y-alumina films with silica demands a strict control of every modification step. Silica films of 3060 nm thickness on top of and presumably partly inside the y-alumina film were realised. The permeabilities of helium and hydrogen through this film are activated, while the propylene permeability was below the detection limit. Separation factors of a HZ-&He mixture are larger than 200 at 200 ’ C with a flux for the preferentially permeating hydrogen of 1.6 x 10m6 mol/m’-set-Pa. The pores must be of molecular dimensions to realise this ( < 1 nm diameter). Preliminary research shows that changes in the synthesis parameters result in higher activation energies and improved separation properties. The relation between synthesis, resulting microstructure and gas separation properties, however, is not yet fully understood.

Characterization of Commercial Ceramic and Hybrid Membranes Using Gas Permeation and Permporometry Tests

The gas separation performance of commercial ceramic Titania and hybrid silica (HybSi®) membranes was assessed using the gas permeation and permporometry methods. Results indicated that the HybSi® membranes have a hybrid surface containing regions covered by a polymeric matrix and others with inorganic pores. These membranes have high H2 selectivity, which incre...

Asymptotic Analysis of Binary Gas Mixture Separation by Nanometric Tubular Ceramic Membranes: Cocurrent and Countercurrent Flow Patterns

Analytical gas-permeation models for predicting the separation process across  membranes (exit compositions and area requirement) constitutes an important and necessary step in understanding the overall performance of  membrane modules. But, the exact (numerical) solution methods suffer from the complexity of the solution. Therefore, solutions of nonlinear ordinary differential equations th...

Synthesis and characterization of novel nanocomposite Chitosan membranes for Ethanol dehydration

Polyacrylonitril (PAN)-supported chitosan (CS) nanocomposite membranes were prepared by cross-linking the CS with 3-aminopropyl-triethoxysilane (APTEOS) via sol-gel method. Pervaporative performances of the CS-SiO2/PAN membrane for dehydration of aqueous alcohol solutions were investigated. From SEM cross-sectional images of the membrane, the spongy pores and the finger-like pores we...

Correlating Physicochemical Properties of Commercial Membranes with CO2 Absorption Performance in Gas-Liquid Membrane Contactor

The gas-liquid membrane contactor (GLMC) is a promising alternative gas absorption/desorption configuration for effective carbon dioxide (CO2 ) capture. The physicochemical properties of membranes may synergistically affect GLMC performances, especially during the long-term operations. In this work, commercial polypropylene (PP) and polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) hollow fiber (HF) membranes wer...
